wine tasting noyes for wine dinner friday august 28th

BON APPETIT CAFÉ
PRESENTS:
AN EVENING TASTING
OF WINES FROM FRANCE
HOSTED BY GERALD WRIGHT
THIRD COAST WINE WERKS
Price dinner and wine tasting 30 dollars/person

2008 Mas de Guiot Chardonnay “Les Jumeaux “ Bottle $11.00 Case $126.00
This small château is located near the town of Saint-Gilles, 15 miles from the Mediterranean Sea and just west of the Rhône River. It is owned and operated by the Cornut family. “Les Jumeaux “ is a very fresh wine with good acidity. Exotic aromas of grapefruit and pineapple explode in the glass. Enjoy!

2008 Domaine Lalande Sauvignon Blanc Bottle $11.00 Case $126.00
Yves Grassa is renowned for making terrific white wines in France’s southwestern region of Gascony. Grassa uses skin-contact to extract perfume and exuberant flavors of tropical fruit. It is vinified in stainless steel. This wine has attracted an incredible following as it is simply a delicious example of Sauvignon Blanc.

2008 Winery of Good Hope Chenin Blanc Bottle $10.00 Case $114.00Pioneers settled in the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa as early as 1652. Putting faith in the region’s remarkable potential, they started to plant vineyards in 1655 and produced their first wines 4 years later; or one century and a half before Australia was even settled for the first time! Chenin is an extremely versatile grape, able to make excellent wines in many different guises, from Late Harvest to straw wine to classic dry Chenin and even Méthode Champenoise. This example is a wonderfully lively, fruity and beautifully balanced dry Chenin Blanc. With flavors of pears, sherbet and flint there is plenty of leesy mouthfeel and juicy fruit, whilst finishing with a refreshing lime and mineral length.

2008 Boudinaud Cote Jardin Rouge Bottle $10.00 Case $114.00
Thierry and Véronique Boudinaud own Vignobles Boudinaud, located in the tiny commune of Fournès, on the right bank of the Rhône River. This particular Côtes du Rhône is named Côté Jardin (which means “garden side”). The grapes are carefully chosen from different parcels surrounding Fournès, and picked from vines averaging 35-years of age. This blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre offers a smooth, full and jammy texture. It is round and spicy, with lots of character. Perfect w/anything grilled, or just slurp it!

2005 Montpezat "Les Palombieres" Bottle $13.25 Case $156.00
The source of the fruit for the Palombieres bottling is a vineyard located on the edge of a small forest where many palombières, or small thatch hunting blinds, are used by the local bird hunters. The vines here were planted in the early 1970s. The grenache is vinified in tank while the mourvèdre finishes fermentation and is aged in barrels for up to one year. Offers up bold flavors of blackberries, pepper and spice, with hints of toast and earth, this big wine is complete and expressive, with complex structured flavors. 80% grenache and 20% mourvèdre. 14% abv.
.
2005 Domaine Cantarelles Cabernet Prestige Bottle $12.50 Case $144.00
This is the last untapped region for quality wine production in southern France. Cantarelles’ excellent location and cailloux-based soils (similar to Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s) create a spectacular environment for Cabernet and Sauvignon. The result is a rich and ripe Cabernet that is a delight to drink.
